Open Source Beats Out Commercial Software

In a recent Network World article, Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst slammed commercial software for being too expensive, failing to address user needs, and worst of all, shoveling all the risk associated with implementing new systems onto CIOs. As I further discuss in my Network World post, this is all too true.  Commercial vendors appear more interested in having the best looking packages, rather than listening to users and delivering business value.  Why this growing value gap between commercial and open source software?  Because of the maturation of the open source supply chain.  I invite you to read the post to see how changes in both the supply and demand of open source have contributed.
